The origin of San Jos\u00e9 de Gracia, recently named Magical Town in 2015, is due to the establishment of a congregation of Indians who came from the Hacienda Garabato, who, upon the death of Mr. Antonio Bonilla, owner of this hacienda, decided to go to a place with the name “De Martha”. That extension of land was a cattle ranch where two rivers named Prieto and Blanco crossed, there the Indian chief Juan Dominguez led the founding of the town in 1673.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1928, due to the construction of the Calles Dam, the municipal seat was suppressed, and it regained its status as a municipality in 1953.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sierra Fria National Park<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Considered the lung of Aguascalientes. It has an extension of 773 thousand hectares of mountains, forests and extraordinary landscapes. Here you can find UMAS (Units for the Conservation, Management and Sustainable Use of Wildlife) hunting ranches, where responsible hunting of species such as white-tailed deer and wild turkey. It is an ideal place to spend the weekend and stay in one of its cabins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plutarco El\u00edas Calles Dam<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Main aquifer of the state and is one of the main attractions of this municipality, of national importance since it is the first technified irrigation district of the country, since it was built to irrigate the cornfields of the valley of Aguascalientes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sanctuary of the Broken Christ<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is located on an island in the middle of the Calles Dam, so the only access is by water. There you can admire the monumental Cristo Roto (Broken Christ), considered one of the largest in Latin America, with a total height of 28 meters. The Sanctuary also has 24 niches that represent the most distinctive Christs of Aguascalientes, each one with its description and miracles attributed to them<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n \n\n
