Sometime later, a group of explorers or metal prospectors gathered to found the first mine located on the slopes of the Altamira Hill. The municipality it originally known as Our Lady of Merced and later as Our Lady of Bethlehem from Asientos de Ibarra, in honor of its founders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1647, the exploitation of mining began, which led to a great economic and demographic progress. Due to the boom of this activity, Asientos developed in such a way that it had (at that time) more inhabitants than the city of Aguascalientes, which generated the agricultural development and the foundation of small factories of fabrics, sheets and blankets.
