DESCRIPTION

Coahuila de Zaragoza, located in the northeast of Mexico, a state with a privileged geographical position, for sharing a border with Texas, United States; adjacent to the states of Nuevo León, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí, Durango and Chihuahua, located approximately 872 kilometers from the capital of the country.

A place full of strengths, touristic attractions and products along 38 municipalities, divided into five regions, the cradle of historical figures and a unique paleontological history in the country. Land of great natural wealth, with ecosystems that include deserts, forests and mountains.

Among our main strengths we have seven “Pueblos Mágicos”, which have made us the state in the north of the country with the largest number of municipalities with this denomination.

In these towns we have from the oldest winery in Latin America in Parras de la Fuente, birthplace of Francisco I. Madero, to a territory full of scientific mysteries and a unique natural paradise in Cuatro Ciénegas, where Don Venustiano Carranza was born.

Viesca has the imposing golden desert of the Bilbao Dunes and its historic Hacienda de Santa Ana de Hornos; In Arteaga we have great mountains with beautiful forests, with multiple species of flora and fauna, where the first Constitutionalist Army was formed.

Candela also stands out for its natural wealth; Guerrero for its great history and its impressive San Bernardo Mission, a key place in the founding of Coahuila and Texas, and Melchor Múzquiz, home of our Kikapús and Mascogos ethnic groups.

As a cultural destination, Coahuila ranks fourth nationally among states with the most museums per inhabitant, with more than 60 public and private cultural venues in operation in the five regions, places where a large part of the cultural, historical and paleontological heritage is displayed.

Coahuila has more than 900 historical monuments and buildings such as prisons, churches and cemeteries, inventoried in the INAH catalog, in addition to old hacienda ruins, dating from colonial times and are part of the Route of the Way Real de los Tejas, used for the transit of minerals since the 18th century, this collection reflects the history, idiosyncrasy and beliefs of the Coahuilenses.

One of our greatest strengths is our paleontological heritage that makes us stand out as a destination with a differentiated touristic offer, which has given us a renowned identity in Mexico and the world as… “Coahuila, land of Dinosaurs”, being the place where most fossil finds have been made in the country.

In the Southeast region, we have the Rincón Colorado Paleontological Zone, the only one open to the public in the country, and the Desert Museum, a Natural History Museum and the most recognized conservation center of the desert flora and fauna in our country and Latin America; and one of the pillars of tourism in our state, a world-class museum that never stops self-innovating.

Coahuila is also distinguished by its great wine tradition for more than 420 years; Currently, we hold the second national place in wine production with more than 35 vineyards and 160 labels, which have won 1,200 international medals, a fact that fills us with satisfaction and pride.

Given our strengths in oenology, paleontology and gastronomy qualities, Coahuila has received four consecutive Excelencias Awards within the framework of FITUR in Spain.

The prizes were awarded to “Vinos de Coahuila” in 2018 for its great quality; in 2019 to the project “Cuatro Ciénegas, El Origen de la Vida” and in 2021, the “Ruta Vinos & Dinos” a tourism product that integrates eleven wineries, the Desert Museum and Rincón Colorado, considered one of the best routes of its kind in the world and that has given us a distinguishable touristic identity nationally and internationally.

The most recent award was received in 2022, for “La Senda Del Cabrito”, a gastronomic route that integrates restaurants, events and festivals from eight municipalities around Northeastern cuisine and family traditions.

Because of our high premium quality livestock production, the typical dishes revolve around meat, which we enjoy in barbecue, discada, mincemeat, pork rinds, cut and shredded, multiple stews used to fill the traditional gorditas, which are small and thick flour tortillas packed with delicious stews.

The North and Carboniferous regions, have two important dams: La Amistad and Venustiano Carranza, where fish-based dishes are prepared. In that area there is also an abundance of deer meat with which tamales are prepared or eaten roasted over the coals with delicious flour tortillas, very typical throughout northern Mexico.

Coahuila contributed to international gastronomy the “nachos”, that renowned snack made with triangulated fried tortillas, bathed in cheddar cheese and jalapeño peppers, a dish that was proudly born in Piedras Negras.

Also, Coahuila is a leading state in livestock exports and goat production; the Laguna region in particular, is the most important dairy basin in the country and in Latin America, due to the advances in technology and industrialization that are applied in its plants and stables.

As a result of the quality of milk, nuts and fruits such as apples, figs, quinces, grapes and peaches that are produced in the various regions, delicious typical cajeta and fruit sweets, their smooth consistency and unique flavor are a true delight for the palate.

We are a state of great qualities that allow us to practice in different segments of tourism, such as business, adventure, ecotourism, sports, gastronomy, culture, oenology and paleontology.

During the year we carry out important events that have allowed us to attract tourism and have a renowned position, nationally and internationally, and have beautiful touristic places in each of the five regions.

Among the great diversity of natural attractions, we have the ecological reserve of Maderas del Carmen in the north of the state; the Sierras de Arteaga and Saltillo in the southeast; the pools and white dunes of Cuatro Ciénegas, the hot springs and waterfalls, as well as the Sabinas River, in the Central and Carboniferous regions and the ecological reserve and the Sierra de Jimulco in the Lagunera region.

Due to the great industrial and commercial movement from the five regions, our destination has a great vocation for business tourism, so we are prepared with suitable venues, such as the Torreón Convention Center, considered one of the best in the northeast of the country, a place prepared for high-end, national and international events.

Our tourism offer has positioned us as a dynamic and different destination, with hotel and restaurant infrastructure of excellent quality, we have five airports and fairgrounds in the five regions.

Coahuila is a well-rounded state, the invitation to come visit us and enjoy our wide and varied tourism offer is permanent, we want you to know our culture, our ethnic groups, gastronomy and our traditions.
