Relive the past and legends of this Magical Town by walking its streets through a quaint and well-ordered urbanization.

DESCRIPTION

Relive the past and legends of this Magical Town by walking its streets through a quaint and well-ordered urbanization, where the indigenous people still dance during their ceremonies and rituals, mixing paganism with Christianity. Some of the main attractions you will see are:

PALACIO MUNICIPAL
The emblematic town hall is a two-story red brick building with interior quarry stone arches.

PLAZA DE ARMAS
The main square is a meeting point where you can enjoy cultural and artistic activities every Sunday. It stands out for its tall palm trees and its wrought iron kiosk.

LA TORRE DEL RELOJ
The clock tower, the Templo del Sagrado Corazón with its tower, and the colonial portals make it the perfect place to spend a relaxing and peaceful afternoon.

EL FUERTE – MUSEO Y MIRADOR
A huge stone and quarry structure on the banks of Río Fuerte, it has become a symbol of cultural development. It graces the hill of La Pila and is a remembrance of the colonial presidio that once sat on the hill in the 17th century. It has a viewpoint that offers an outstanding panoramic view of this Magical Town.

IGLESIA DEL SAGRADO CORAZÓN DE JESÚS
This church was built in 1854. Its thick walls lack anyornamentation, showing a strong and austere style, only divided by the fine reliefs that decorate the semicircular arch, which frames the main doorway. Slender semicircular openings pierce the tower, and its sharp peak, which contrasts with the rest of the building, catches the eye.

CASA DE LA CÚPULA / CASA DE LA CULTURA
It is another of the jewels that this place offers. It was built in the 18th century; in the past, it was occupied by Jesuits and later converted into a jail. Inside is a small costumbrist museum with pieces, costumes, and tools characteristic of the Mayan people, a library, and an art exhibition hall that hosts cultural activities on its bohemian nights.
