DESCRIPTION

Cradle of the “rebozo” in Mexico, this town is one of the most traditional in the State thanks to the production of these fabrics since the viceroyalty era. In Santa María del Río the most famous shawl was born: “el rebozo de bolita”, but there are also other popular designs such as the “barbilla”, the “palomo” or the “chalina”, which is of a single color. The artisans make the shawl with the “ikat” technique, for dyeing the threads, as well as the backstrap loom. Many of them have even won awards for making the most beautiful “rebozo” in the country. Learn more about these techniques in its “Casa del Rebozo” Museum, located in the center of this Pueblo Mágico and get to know the Asunción Church.
